Sales are up BUT book-to-bill is down for PCBs

Total shipments in June 2022 were up 17.1 percent compared to the same month last year. Compared to the preceding month, they rose 26.3 percent.
PCB year-to-date bookings in June were down 4.1 percent compared to last year. Bookings in June increased 14.4 percent from the previous month.
“Shipments in the PCB sector are improving … supply chain challenges might be abating… Shipments are up 10.4 percent over the last three months compared to a year ago. Orders appear to be stabilizing at a high level. Orders are off 1% over the same period, but up 23.6% compared to pre-pandemic levels.”

Why does hexavalent chromium make powder coaters’ smile?
Finishers are apprehensive about the regulated move to trivalent chrome. They don’t like the cost, quality, or the big learning curve but mostly they are concerned about their customers! This move is prompting many plating customers to whether plating is even the right finish!!!

Slowing signs in Finishing?
The Gardner Business Index (GBI): Finishing closed June with slowed expansion. Backlog, new orders, production indices and even employment activity all showed slowed expansion. While exports contracted at about the same rate as all other months this year.
